Taste of Eternity: A Musical Shabbat
Part II: Saturday Morning Service
Taste of Eternity, Part II is the seventh in a series of radio programs and recordings in The Western Wind’s acclaimed Judaica Series.
A double CD, it includes the major prayers of the Saturday services as well as a celebratory song for Havdalah, the ceremony that marks the close of the Sabbath. The music is drawn from the widest possible variety of Jewish traditions, including ancient Sephardic hymns, composed works from the 16th century by Salamone Rossi, 19th and early 20th century music by Sulzer, Lewandowski, Naumbourg and Dunayevsky, as well as contemporary Israeli and American compositions and arrangements by Partos, Secunda, Zim, Goldstein, and Levine. The musical content of the program reflects a broad view of synagogue music. Male and female cantors and a mixed choir (men and women) sing composed works, as well as traditional chazzanut (music for cantor with quasi-improvised choral accompaniments).Track List:
