Ability to match pitch and carry a tune. Knowledge of musical notation.

Location and Directions

The Workshop takes place at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, Maryland. Travel directions:

From Washington, DC:

Go north on Wisconsin Ave (Rt. 355) which becomes Rockville Pike, through downtown Bethesda, past the Naval Hospital to Cedar Lane. Turn right at the traffic light onto Cedar Lane, and continue 0.7 mile to the Church entrance (marked by a low sign) which is on the right near the top of the hill (second driveway after the light at Beach Drive).

From the Beltway Outer Loop (Westbound I-495):

Take Exit 33, which splits into two ramps. Bear right and take the one marked “Connecticut Avenue North, Kensington.” When you get onto Connecticut Avenue, move to the left lane as soon as possible. Turn left at the traffic light onto Beach Drive. Follow Beach Drive about ½ mile through the park to a traffic light at Cedar Lane. Turn right onto Cedar Lane and proceed up the hill to the Church entrance which is marked by a low sign.

From Virginia via the Beltway Inner Loop (Eastbound I-495):

Take exit #34, Wisconsin Avenue/Bethesda to Rockville Pike/Route 355 South.  Travel approximately a mile.  At fifth light, take a left onto Cedar Lane.  The church is 0.7 mile past Rockville Pike/Route 355.  The church entrance (marked by a low, brownish sign) is on the right near the top of the hill (second driveway after the light at Beach Drive.

From southbound I-270 or Beltway Inner Loop Exit 35:

Exit at Rt. 355 south (take DC - not VA- spur; left exit from spur) to Bethesda. At the third light turn left onto Cedar Lane. Church is 0.7 mile past Rockville Pike. The Church entrance (marked by a low sign) is on the right near the top of the hill (second driveway after the light at Beach Drive).


Closest stop is the Red Line’s Medical Center. Walk north about ½ mile on Rockville Pike/Route 355 to Cedar Lane and 0.7 mile east on Cedar Lane, or take Ride-On bus which stops near the corner of Beach Drive and Cedar Lane. Ride-On bus #34 goes up Cedar Lane.

Registration Policy

A $95 deposit is required to ensure your enrollment. To register please click on the Register button above. A letter containing pertinent information and a questionnaire will be e-mailed to you upon receipt of your registration. Your balance due is paid upon your arrival to the workshop. Full refund will be made if you cancel by January 31; 50% refund thereafter.

Music Policy and Group Discount Information

Music Policy

The cost of all the music needed is included in the tuition. You may be asked to print out PDFs of core repertoire. A variety of vocal music publications and Western Wind recordings will be available for sale.

Bring Your Group!

Pre-existing groups are welcome at Western Wind Workshops. If enough members of a group enroll, they can apply for a tuition discount and work together as a group. Please contact The Western Wind for details as early as possible.
